WIP Whatever!
Holy shit. Hell yeah! We've got so many WIP snippets incoming, let's goooo all my incredible writer friends! Thank you @darkurgetrash for the beautifully heart-breaking teaser for Lead Me Through the Dark and the tag! As well as all the others that have shared! BG3 fic writing hype!
Who needs a tag? Who doesn't have a tag and wants one? (No seriously, let me know I would love to tag you in). Would any of youuuuu like a tag? Consider it a welcome invitation! @benicemurphy @ashprince-of-bel-air @rinwellisathing @winged-monkey @sorceresssundries
Not sure if anyone is interested in the Rolan, Cal, and Lia stuff, I know it's all so miserable right now, but it's going to look up in the next chapter.
I was working on it today then I remembered I'm a liar and fucking out of control and started some light-hearted banter for the totally-not-going-to-exist next instalment of Rugan x Aradin series as well. (It's all @lizziemajestic's fault, who helped inspire the scene).
So...
Both under the cut? ...Both under the cut.
Rugan x Aradin totally-nonexistent-next-installment banter WIP
Rugan rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “Think assassination is reserved for folks of some standing. Nothing but plain old murder for you.”
“Oh well,” Aradin replied, enjoyably thick with sarcasm, “in that case I don’t fancy it at all. Besides, we both know you’d botch it.”
“You still on about that?”
“Let’s have it then,” Aradin asked as he busied himself pulling his gauntlets off. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Just came to ask for your hand, didn’t I? Throw you over my shoulder and take you back with me.” The younger man’s amused gaze flickered over from where he was unlacing out of his heavy footwear, and a flash of alarm petrified Rugan’s face. “Please tell me you didn’t take that serious.”
Aradin puckered his face up dramatically. “Best cancel the flowers. And they would’ve gone so nice with my eyes.”
“Oh aye,” Rugan snorted. “Would’ve really highlighted the pubescent angst you turned into a personality.”
Aradin pulled the chair back and relaxed into it, swinging his legs up and resting his feet on the table, one foot crossed over the other. “Reckon I’d look good in a dress, big slit in the side so you can see the boots. Get the feelin’ formal wear isn’t really your thing. Bet you scrub up nice, though.”
“Swear to Gods,” Rugan let his face fall into his hands and forcefully rubbed his eyelids.
“You’re so easy to wind up mate,” Aradin clasped his hands behind his head and grinned.
Rolan, Cal, & Lia next chapter WIP - I swear they've hit the bottom and after this next bit of sad discussion in the next chapter they're finally going to have a win and things will start looking up.
Rolan put his elbows on his knees and slid his hands in his hair.
“I’m sorry.”
“It wasn't your fault, Rolan,” Cal said, rubbing his temples. He was so tired, perhaps even tired of making that response.
“I thought that…” Rolan waved vaguely, hoping his pathetic gesture would do the talking for him. “I thought I'd finally figured our way out. But I stalled. Waited around like it was going to come to me. If I’d have acted sooner, if I’d have written the letter when I first thought of the idea. If I hadn’t wasted so long doubting it was even possible we might have left for Baldur’s Gate a great many tenday before this all happened. It could hardly be worse, reputation notwithstanding. The resources such an accomplished wizard would have access to - we’d be long gone and basking in the upper classes of the Gate before Elturel even thought of taking an extended holiday to the Nine Hells. Not to mention the earnings potential.”
“If I can’t eat it, he can keep his gold,” Cal muttered.
“I should’ve thought of it sooner,” Rolan voice clipped harsh with regret.
“Did think of it,” Lia said forcefully, an honest attempt at reconciliation. “Hells, even got accepted. That’s not nothing, Rolan. That one lady seemed impressed.”
“Not sure if impressed would be the word I used,” he mused. “Though it certainly helped us throw our weight around.” He paused, reflecting on that day that they had first entered the basement. He thought about that woman and her vile judgment. Then her child, and that insufferable ball. And then… Rolan shook the recollection away. They had always avoided looking through the remains of that room.

light of my life, the @lizziemajestic of all time tagged me in
wip weekend
so enjoy a A Trio of Bastards below the cut.
no pressure tag for @graysparrowao3 @fangbanger3000 @faerieologymajor @forget-me-maybe
concept title: couple’s therapy
When Rugan approaches, it’s the drow that notices him first.
Their eyes light up with recognition, Faer leaning back in their chair and letting an inviting smile curl their lips. “Rugan, that can’t be you, can it?” they purr. “It’s been a while.”
The drow looks good—better than the last time he saw them, even.
“Too long,” he replies, letting his gaze travel over Faer in a way that’s far from subtle. “Surprised you remember me, considering all I’m hearin.’”
“Mm,” Faer hums around their drink. “You sell yourself short. Hard to forget moments like that.”
They aren’t wrong. Rugan smiles at the memory, their back against the cave wall, leg over his shoulder, his head between their-…
The man beside Faer clears his throat, drawing his attention. Rugan feels his lips twitch in amusement at the sight of him. This kid—whoever he is—clearly isn’t thrilled to see him here.
He’s young, probably the youngest between the three of them (though the drow never gave him a straight number), with a mop of curly hair and a seemingly permanently annoyed expression. “You two, uh…”
The man’s eyes flit between them, sizing Rugan up with a mix of irritated curiosity and something else.
Something that Rugan finds intriguing.
“…know each other?”
Faer seems to notice it, too, the way the drow’s eyes find Rugan’s slowly as if they need confirmation that he sees the same thing they do.
And Rugan does. Oh, he definitely does.
“Yeah,” Faer murmurs around their smirk, their gaze lingering on Aradin, then back to him, smirk widening like they’re savoring every second of this little exchange. “We know each other.”
The man reacts predictably.
Rugan smiles, watching the man’s expression narrow even further, his jaw setting with an irritated edge, eyes flashing with something akin to annoyance or maybe something darker, his gaze hardening as he processes Rugan’s presence.
Rugan likes the way this is unfolding.
“Faer here saved me from becoming gnoll chow,” he explains, not waiting for an invitation as he sits down next to them. “Never quite had the chance to thank them proper, though.”
“No, no, you definitely thanked me,” Faer responds before taking a sip of their drink - something dark and amber that Rugan can smell from here. “It just wasn’t very proper.”
He laughs loudly and genuinely, then watches as the kid next to them sets his jaw in a hard line, expression tightening. Rugan doesn’t miss the flash of something possessive in his eyes as he watches the older man closely, like he’s trying to figure him out.
Good. Let him look.
Rugan tilts his head slightly, letting his gaze linger on the man. “Who’s your friend?”
“Aradin,” he responds before Faer can answer, voice gruff. “Beno.”
“Rugan,” he replies with a lazy grin. “So, what’s a guy like you doing with Faer?”
Aradin settles on “Keeping them out of trouble,” delivered with a clipped, dry tone that’s trying too hard to be indifferent.
“But trouble’s all I’ve got to offer,” Faer cuts in, their voice laced with amusement as they swirl the dregs of their drink, shifting closer to Rugan until their shoulder brushes his - a deliberate move that Rugan meets with a lazy smile.
“Yeah, I figured that out,” Aradin mutters.
Rugan can’t help but let a slow, satisfied smile spread across his face. “You’ve got your work cut out for you,” he replies, letting his hand drift to Faer’s knee, fingers tracing idle circles over the fabric. “Not everyone’s got the, uh... stamina to keep up with Faer here.”
Aradin’s eyes are glued to the movement, caught between irritation and something Rugan might dare to call interest. There’s a moment where he thinks Aradin might reach across the table and shove his hand off Faer’s leg, but instead, he just holds the stare, unflinching.
“I’ve been doing just fine,” he says, voice gruff.
“Is that right?” Rugan’s grin widens, and he can’t help the teasing lilt that seeps into his tone.
He tilts his head, letting his gaze travel over Aradin with a leisurely sweep that’s anything but innocent. He takes his time, his eyes tracing the line of Aradin’s jaw, the set of his shoulders, the way his hands are clenched just a little too tightly.
“Because I’m not sure you know what you’re signing up for.”

I get why people only play the first 2 acts of bg3 cuz the third act is so frustratingly unpolished. It's a crime cuz yanno, I'm just maybe I'll go redo X quest but they're mostly kind of linear in a way that none of the quests from the first 2 acts are.
There's so few opportunities to be sneaky or set up elaborate crimes or talk your way out of or into trouble. Way too many "step into a room and a fight starts" situations. So many dead ends.
I was really disappointed with the Ironhand/Gondian resolution it felt so pre-determined and clipped off. That one blind guy who came out of nowhere just solves the problem and is fine? Maybe if it was Barcus in there helping me I would've cared. Maybe if I had to choose between letting him die in the explosion or using Wulbren's bomb (after evacuating everyone). But then Wulbren and Barcus just showing up at the end to yell at each other/me? Weh.
Let me blow something up if I take Wulbren's bomb but don't use it at the foundry. There's so many times in earlier acts where you get prompted to use something for not its intended purpose. Please. Big bomb go brrrr in my pocket forever.
Really tragic that even if you stop Roah from getting away with the money (whether by knocking her out or killing her and there really should be different outcomes for those) it has absolutely no effect on the Zhent attacking the guild. Why are they doing that? They didn't get paid to do that. I know because the money is me.
Rugan
There should be a way to get to the iron throne without tipping off Gortash/the Banites. Swimmy cult is right there, surely they can help me get down there somehow with some checks and/or via their danger basement maybe? The time limit thing is rad af but let me be a tryhard and find a way to explore it chill.
More Banite content in general. These guys are hilarious. Please let me do crimes to them (or even for them).
Please make Cazador's house make sense. It has so much attic but it doesn't have a front door.
House of Grief :\
Mizora's false choice sucks. Let me tell her to come back when she's got a real offer. Six months is nothing. Why the hell aren't the Banites actively using the Duke as leverage over the PCs? I don't even like Wyll but the Wyllgirlies deserve better than this and even if you don't have Wyll the Duke was hyped up so much in previous acts. He's basically a sexy lamp.
If any of these things is already in the game I don't think anyone's found them yet so I feel like that's not on us. It's been months.

Welcome to yet another one of my sideblogs.
Basics: Cal| '94| MN,USA|
I follow/like from my main, felixschokehold. I have another sideblog for books, which is threshholdofescape.
But, you’re here to see which games I play, since it is indeed the theme of this blog.
The Last of Us Remastered/Part 1
The Last of Us Part 2
Baldur’s Gate 3
Skyrim
Elder Scrolls Online
Red Dead Redemption 2
Detroit: Become Human
For more information, click to see!
I have played the TLOU series multiple times and replay them frequently. My favorite characters are Joel Miller and Abby Anderson.
I have not finished Baldur’s Gate 3. I have done a slightly evil gen tav (Skotadi) playthrough romancing Astarion, which got to Act III. However, Act III is quite wonky and I was really frothing at the mouth to do a good gen tav (Elise) x Gale romance playthrough, which I have started and am currently in Act II (as of Oct. 21, 2023). Gale is my favorite, and I will delve deeper into my BG3 beginnings in a seperate post at... some point in time.
Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online are more casual for me. I have not been on ESO in a couple years, but if I find a group maybe I’ll hop back on! In both, I play a high elf mage. I have never married anyone, I am always content to have a happy, platonic love with Serana.
I have played RDR2 only once. I did a “good” playthrough and the story destroyed my soul in such a severe way that I have not been able to do another playthrough several years later. I love the game, I love the story, and I do plan to do another playthrough one day. My favorite characters are Arthur and Sean.
I have played Detroit: Become Human a couple times, but have tended to stick with the "good" choices. I would like to do a "bad" playthrough, but we will see! My favorite character is Connor, and everyone else is on the back burner.
This post will be edited and adjusted as time goes on. Thanks for dropping by!

You know who we are - very clever. Then you probably also know it's not smart to interfere with Zhent business. This is the point when a clever lass like you accepts my gratitude and walks away.

Listen. You look like you know how to handle yourself.
You should meet my associates. We've got our own drinking spot by the tavern - invitation only.
Tell the fellow on the door 'little serpent, long shadow'. He'll take good care of you.
Rugan!
It's fine. We'd be dead if they hadn't showed up. A little hospitality won't do any harm.

I've found the Zhentarim hideout at Waukeen's Rest yesterday and they've sent me to retrieve the missing cargo (I already know what's in that one from previous playthroughs hehe) and when I told Rugan he said:

Rich men place more value on wine and fine clothes than on the lives of folks like me. It's a pretty bit of frippery that will sit on a mantel gathering dust. But the pay for delivering it makes the risk worthwhile.

Zarys: You're the one who recruited me, Rugan.
Zarys: You're the one who taught me rule number one, remember?
Rugan: Bwaah.
Zarys: No. Olly didn't remember either, did you Olly?
[TagCinematic]
Zarys: You're dead the moment you steal from the Zhentarim.
Zarys: Which you should've known. That is, if you'd done your research before impersonating one of us.
We walk in to find Zarys overseeing the torture of an agent that handed over special cargo to us. The agent is currently bound to a chair and badly beaten, and we're due to get the same treatment in her eyes - unless we can talk her out of it. Volume is likely louder than normal conversation but not shouting - she's standing on a raised platform perhaps ten feet above us and the tortured agent,

Zarys won't be happy. But, I suppose she can take it up with the Pereghost herself. Take the chest. If you haven't stopped by our Waukeen's Rest spot, you should. I'm sure Zarys'd welcome such a… prestigious guest.
